[ It hasn't been that long since the duo's arrival back to Erdrea, the world completely foreign to Void Archives, but defiantly full of life - he has never truly witnessed it in its earnest state until now. The shade of it clinging to his memory when glimpsing upon it in its distorted form in those twisted states of one's mind - but now flourishing, with the people, and consequences. The latter of which arose almost immediately when the two met with the King and those so-called heroes.
...To say the least, Void Archives didn't quite make a good impression on them - though they did try to tone their habit of ruining interactions and aggravating people they didn't like to at least 1/5 of the usual capacity, it wasn't always successful. There was an inevitable back and forth with natural distrust where Jasper was concerned - but, there were spots of genuine hope and friendliness amongst certain faces.
Most importantly, Jasper wasn't sent off to confirmed exile. And, they managed to score something like lodgings in the castle - but, afterwards? They were setting out to make strides that would help prove that new leaf was truly turned for the ones still hard to convince. At least the sun is bright, and pleasant above them, as they both make strides towards the outskirts of the city.
Visiting certain places to begin to ascertain the current relations between races and start to mend them isn't going to be easy. ]
What a beautiful day it is, isn't it?
Almost makes yesterday's interactions seem like a dream, hm?
[ Nevermind that it could never be anywhere near like that. But, well, things could have gone certainly worse. Not that Void Archives would have permitted it; yet, all the same this is true. ]
It still feels that way, if I am to be truthful with you.
[Waking up in his old familiar bed in the morning had been a surprisingly disorienting experience, given... everything. The atmosphere in the castle had certainly been awkward, especially upon running into Hendrik at breakfast after they'd... hashed things out... having Void Archives show up had somehow felt both baffling and grounding at the same time.
Being able to leave to see what he could do to reach out to the monsters that had gone into hiding after the defeat of... Calasmos, was it? He certainly had missed out on some things... well, in any case, it had felt better to have an excuse to leave and sort out his feelings on everything that had happened instead of continuing to feel Weird.]
I still feel a bit like I may wake up in a dungeon at any moment, even though I am well aware you would never allow it.
The strangest things were the nature of the threads mentioned, but to them a lot of the world is going to be quite unusual; though, the concepts are easily understood. ]
If you ever feel that it is far too much of a fantasy than reality, just ask myself to pinch you. Or better yet, simply take my hand and with a single squeeze, all will be made certain~
[ Void Archives says genuinely yet playful...how they manage both is sometimes an art! Or, they think so. ]
...Speaking of which, I am hardly surprised some of them seemed interested in that result. But, they gave their word on not pursuing that course of action.
As you are most correct I shall never allow it, I am fully prepared if upon on our return they decide on a change of heart. I know how the human heart works very well, after all.
Well, I am hardly the only person they let off comparatively easy. I would not have considered returning if I thought there had been no chance of forgiveness, after all.
[...]
Though, you can go ahead and pinch me wherever you'd like.
Oh, certainly so. You had informed myself before of your expectations that some would be easier to reach than some others, after all...
[ They chuckle at Jasper giving them free reign like that! ]
Really! Do you know what you have done? Do you really know what you have wrought? Are you sincerely prepared to allow me such full reign?
[ Void Archives spins a bit on one foot, if only to move temporarily in front of Jasper, doing the ridiculous motion of walking backwards, as they both successfully finally breach the outskirts. A pity the other blond's in full armor right now, huh...they could have pinched easily at his sides, or elsewhere...
At least where they both are now, there is probably the usual background environment of various things to contend with, but they are an archives and know where the things they glanced upon are. So no need to worry about tripping over the dreadful enemy of any Shardbond character: rocks! ]
Alas, but it is true. There is nothing that I can do.
[ ...they don't even sound all that troubled. Maybe because they do plan on ambushing him with this kind of behavior (as Jasper is right to conclude.) ]
Do you truly suspect that you are out of the woods, though~?
[ Their tone enters a certain kind of inflection that is trended towards their typical brand of playful, as their mind goes places. It helps that they're still walking like this, though right around this time, one foot lands on a random branch, snapping it. But, despite that, it doesn't seem they've scared off any small wildlife. ]
[ Surely it just means they they're simply out of reach of those monsters, right? Void Archives has sort of taken notice, but, well, they don't sense any immediate danger, so they conclude that it's probably fine. ]
Ah, I am pretty good at playing those.
Though, of course, I shall not even give you a hint as to when will it necessarily end. You truly will simply have to keep your eyes peeled!
As you may know, I treasure many expressions from you. I wonder what kind of look you will grant me at that time. Oh, and of course, whatever kind of praise for my methodical planning~
[ As they say this, there is an indication that perhaps all is not completely quiet as it seems to be - the sound of the movement of something lightweighted. A bush, maybe? Or simply the innocent gust of wind?
How close is Jasper paying to his surroundings, by the by...? ]
Well, you know... should you succeed, turnabout is always fair play. Perhaps I ought to get the jump on you first...
[...speaking of getting the jump on, he is doing his damnedest to keep an eye out even as he's talking. Maybe not as much as he could, considering there aren't many monsters around, but at the same time there are probably still bears and stuff.]
Do you honestly believe that you would be able to beat myself to it? Hmm, while I expect to very much do your best to, ah, repay my actions in kind, I am uncertain if you would be able to jump ahead of my initial efforts~
[ Void Archives' tone does have a challenging edge to it. But, his eyes do twinkle with nothing less than veritable excitement, as does their sharp grin. That being said, they are not exactly unmindful of their surroundings, either.
Soon, it becomes obvious that there is something amiss.
The wind dies down, the bushes still, and not even a hint of wildlife stirs. It is if all has stopped except for the two of them - then, Void Archives seems to pause and take a look around. Off to the far right of Jasper's peripheral vision, something dark and indistinct flickers. Though, it may not matter - as, immediately afterwards, there is an odd, dissonant tune, that pokes and prods at their consciousness.
An overwhelming fatigue seems to wash over the both of them. Jasper can even absolutely tell the other blond collapses, completely unconscious. And soon, the same tune will bring him under, though he can certainly try to fight it with all of his might! ]
[Jasper is ready to flirt right back, but... something's wrong. He stops to...
...
Oh, something's wrong. He draws his swords and tries to see if he can at least keep himself awake, but it's not... working... He falls to his knees, looking over to Void to make sure they're at least... not harmed beyond that, and tries to use one sword to prop himself up to his knees so he can try and keep an eye out for any clues...?]
[ Void Archives doesn't move, like a puppet with its strings that have been cut off, but it doesn't seem that they've been injured greatly, even if it might be getting rather difficult to ascertain minute details in the surroundings given the entire...
Apparent debuff. Though, it is certainly more than that.
As for any other potential clues? That seem dissonant tune that keeps playing, and he can see as his vision begins to blur, that the flicker of darkness appears closer, and closer. A figure may be able to be glimpsed from it.
But, after that singular moment, it's lights out.
...
In the darkness, all that has been known becomes twisted. Their lives as they know it, erased, then reformed, from the ground up.
Jasper, a great Knight of almost unparalleled renown, known for championing many achievements across the land, one who many people extol for his accomplishments. Driving away villains, defending from cruel monsters.
That is the person he is. That is the person he always has been. His previous adventures on Earth? In Chicago? In those mindscapes? Of everyone he has met, and known? Gone, for the most part.
Some other knights are even jealous of his accolades.
As for Void Archives...
Well, that remains to be seen. After all, they are merely a servant of the castle. That is all that they have ever been. Though, they certainly wish that they can be more, they know better.
Coincidentally, this is one that is currently is knocking upon the door of the extravagant room Jasper sleeps in.
